Student Employment

Placement

For over 15 years, the Cal Poly CM program experienced consistent 99% placement rates until 2009. In 2009 the placement rates dropped to an approximate low of 50%. Despite slower than expected recovery of the Construction Industry, our recruitment statistics have rebounded and are current at 95%.. Construction Management is one of the largest industries in the United States with a vast diversity of employment opportunities. Students and graduates are obtaining internships and jobs in various traditional CM positions such as Project Engineers, Field Engineers, Construction Project Engineers, Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Cost Managers, Estimators and Field Superintendents. Students are also obtaining jobs in development, real estate, IT and others. Median starting salary for Cal Poly CM graduates is $75,000. https://construction.calpoly.edu/opportunities/index.html

Opportunities

The Cal Poly Construction Management department has a comprehensive Recruiting Program organized by the California Center for Construction Education (CCCE). CCCE has consistently conducted over 150 information sessions and interview opportunities every academic year. Our recruiters and students appreciate the ease of scheduling that the Program provides, as well as the in-department, Interview Rooms. The success of this Program benefits the CM students (as well as other disciplines) with increased internships and full time hires. For more information session information see: https://ccce.calpoly.edu/industry-recruitment-opportunities/

The success of the Cal Poly CM Recruiting Program is directly related to our "Family of Recruiters". We are privileged to have 100+ diverse Construction companies who recruit in the department annually.
