The Construction Management Department works closely with the construction industry and our alumni to provide continuing education opportunities to current practitioners. The majority of this effort is conducted through the California Center for Construction Education. In addition, the department sponsors alumni events to help graduates from the department maintain a network of contacts important to their professional careers.
An important source of professional feedback into the department and its curriculum is through the CM Industry Advisory Committee. This group of industry partners and alumni meets regularly to provide input to the department head and faculty and to meet with current students. Their help recently has been crucial to the private funding that has enabled the department to start construction on new facilities that will be occupied by 2008. The department continually seeks to expand these partnerships that are so critical to our ongoing success.
Industry Advisory Committee
As the construction unit began a surge of growth in enrollment, it obtained a university commitment for a new construction specific building, and the department began to explore a integrated approach to the curriculum, the department deemed the time appropriate to convene an industry council that would provide the department with timely input on our curriculum, our fund raising and the current needs of the industry. Therefore, in Spring 2004 the Construction Management Department convened it’s first department specific Industry Advisory Committee. Since that date, the committee has met once a year, usually in the Spring Quarter. Members of the committee that were invited to attend the meeting on April 27, 2007 were:
