Troy Hart truly embodies Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy. Upon graduation from high school Troy made the decision to enter the building trades in lieu of pursuing a college career. This decision brought a myriad of experiences for Troy which included: safety officer, oilfield roustabout, carpenters helper, laborer and welders helper. With the uncertain economy and layoffs looming, Troy made the decision to pursue his college degree. After attending Cuesta College and ultimately transferring to Fresno State, Troy completed his B.S. degree in Construction Management. Troy enjoyed many successful years as a professional in the construction management industry. Fortunately for Troy, the projects he was involved with were primarily located in San Luis Obispo County where Troy has been a lifelong resident. Those professional projects include; School Modernization for the San Luis Coastal Unified School District, San Luis Obispo County Government Center Demolition and Excavation Project, California Men’s Colony Sewer Plant Upgrade, Cal Poly Constructability Review for the Data Expansion Project, and the New Superior Courthouse in Paso Robles. In August 2008 Troy pursued a lifelong goal and entered the world of teaching. Troy loves sharing his “real life” work experiences with the students and truly enjoys this chapter of his life. Troy is married and has 3 young children. His hobbies include riding dirt bikes, gardening, operating his tractor and hanging out with his family at the lake or the beach.
